Many southern colonies were started as corporate colonies.John White started at Roanoke Island in 1590 which was the first southern colony. Then, in 1607, the Virginia Colony founded Jamestown. Other southern colonies were proprietary colonies like Maryland, and Carolina. Carolina attracted many new settlers.
