Malnutrition-
The lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough of the right things, or being unable to use the food that one does eat.

Hunger-
A feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled with the desire to eat.

Poor people-
In poor countries, natural disasters can contribute to malnutrition by making it hard for people to get what they need.

People of every age-
Infants, children, and adolescents may suffer because many nutrients are crucial for normal growth and development.

SYMPTOMS & EFFECTS

  • Underweight
  • Decaying teeth
  • Poor growth
  • Bloated stomach
  • Problems learning

-Pregnant women, if malnourished, may effect the growth of their child.
-Iron deficiency can cause a person to be less active.
-Students who are malnourished often have trouble keeping up, or staying focused in school.

CAUSES OF MALNUTRITION

  • Not consuming enough food
  • Not eating the proper foods
  • Having a disease or condition preventing someone from digesting properly
  • Not reciving enough of one specific nutrient

PREVENTIONS

  • Adequate nutrition during childhood
  • Poverty reduction
  • Improvements in basic health care
  • Better response during and after emergency situations
  • Food insecurity reduction

SOLUTIONS

  • Expand reach through community health workers
  • Spread more awareness of global malnutrition
  • Community outreach programs
  • Promote hospital or health facility treatments

TREATING

  • Go to a dietitian
  • Change types and quantities of foods
  • Prescribed dietary supplements
  • Other treatments for people who have specific diseases
