PRESENTATION OUTLINE
ORGANISM THAT CAUSES DISEASE
- West Nile virus is caused by Mosquitos. Mostly the Culex species.
- Medium sized mosquitos
- They are brown with whitish markings on abdomen
HOW THE DISEASE IS TRANSMITTED
A mosquito bites an infected animal (normally birds) and then gets the virus through the animals blood. Then it can be transferred from the mosquito to the next animal it bites.
Humans can be infected in the same way as animals. A very small portion of people can get the West Nile virus by things such as blood transfusions.
