SICKLE CELL ANEMIA

WHAT CAUSES IT

• Caused by an inherited abnormal hemoglobin
• The abnormal hemoglobin causes distorted (sickled) red blood cells.

SYMPTOMS

• Anemia
• Episode of pain
• Hand-foot syndrome
• Vision problems
• Delayed growth

Life expectancy
the median age at death was 42 years for males and 48 in females

Is there a cure?
There is no exact cure for sickle cell although there is a treatment which is a A blood and marrow stem cell transplant which a cure for a small number of people
