Entebbe international air port which lies 40 km from the capital Kampala is the main entrance into Uganda. It is serviced by a number of international air lines like SN Brussels, British airways south African air ways Kenyan air ways, air Tanzania, Rwanda air express, Egypt express, Egypt air and Ethiopian airlines. Uganda can also be reached overland from Kenya Rwanda and Tanzania.

A certificate of yellow fever vaccination is required. All visitors should take prophylactic drugs. It is advisable to drink bottled water and not tap water.

English is the commonly used language among Uganda and it’s the official language of Uganda. Of the 30-plus indigenous cultures and languages, Luganda serves as something of lingua franca.

Day time temperatures are generally warm but sometimes hot. So carry with you light clothes. Temperatures get cooler in the evenings especially at high altitudes.

Driving in Uganda is on the left hand side. For those visitors who do not have experience of African roads are advised to organize a vehicle with an African driver.

Tourist oriented hotels and restaurants serve good western style meals while a wider range of cuisines being available in the capital Kampala and some larger towns. Local restaurants serve Ugandan dishes typically matooke or cooked banana eaten with stew.

Wide selections of handicrafts are available as souvenirs. These include musical instruments such as drums as well as excellent local basket work, paintings, batiks and pottery.

The unit of currency is Uganda shillings but the US Dollar is traditionally the hard currency of preference. Euros and pound sterling are widely accepted. Hard currency cash can be changed for local currency in banks and private exchange bureaus in all large towns. Cheques are not widely accepted outside Kampala. Local currency can be drawn against visa and other major credit cards at selected ATMs in Kampala, at Entebbe international airport and other few large towns.

Uganda can be visited at any time though hiking, gorilla tracking and other forest walks are more challenging during the rains which generally peak over mid September to November and March to May

Passport and visa requirements should be taken into consideration before traveling to Uganda. Carry with you binoculars and field guides. A zoom lens camera of your choice will do for photographer
