Germany was divided up into sections after World War II, each ruled by a different country. In West Germany, there was the Federal Republic of Germany which was ruled by the Soviets. In East Germany, the German Democratic Republic was set up, ruled by the United States and Great Britain. Russia was still attempting to implement communism, which was one main cause of the war. The United States did not want this still, and so the was the divided sections were ruled represents the main causes of the war.
There were several people who left the Soviet-ruled land in Germany to go to the eastern side because they did not support the government and were seeking greater opportunities. Russia was very embarrassed and offended by this so they built a wall to prevent people from leaving. This was called the Berlin Wall, as it was the border of control in the capital, Berlin. The soviets had many guards, an abundance of weaponry, and an overload of surveillance near the wall. The United State and Great Britain however, did not do much to try and stop this, as they feared another large conflict.
