PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Chlorine was discovered in Sweeden in 1774 by one person named Carl Willhelm Scheele.
The name chlorine comes from a Greek word kloros meaning pale green and was used for bleaching.
You can find it in Poland, Russia, Germany, China, India, Australia, and Utah in the USA.
It can be found in ocean water, and the atmosphere, and mined from the earth's crust.
The process of processing chlorine is called electrolysis and chlorine is derived from salt by passing a electrical current through a solution of brine.
Chlorine makes up 2% of the earth in the form of sea water and .ooo1% of the universe and doesn't exist by its self in nature, but it exists as a compound.
Looks like yellow green and is a gas, it's melting point is 101.5 c and 34.04 c and is reactive with almost all of the elements and compounds.
It has the highest electron affinity which makes it unique, yes these elements help explain why ancient civilizations used it.
Chlorine is worth $0.15 per 100 grams
Some uses are making everyday products like disinfectants, plastics, liquid bleach, and it was used for bleaching fabrics, another use is killing bacteria and cleaning for example when you poor chlorine into a pool to clean it.
