BIOGRAPHY

  • Born: December 1878- March 1953
  • From Gori, Georgia which he switched his name
  • birth name Josef Vissarionorich Djugashvilli
  • Was the leader of the Soviet Union
  • Born in poverty and rose to politics (revolutionary)

CAREER/POLITICAL VIEW POINTS

  • In 1901 Stalin joined the Social Democratic Labor Party
  • Stalin became involved in revolutionary politics, as well as criminal activities, as a young man.
  • He was Commissar for State Control in 1919-23, and in 1922 was appointed Secretary-General of the communist party
  • After the death of Vladimir Lenin, Stalin joined forces with Grigory Zinoviev and Leon Kamenev to lead the country.
  • Stalin claimed that “ the closer the country came to achieving communism, the more intense the resistance by the revolution’s enemies would be…” 

CAREER/POLITICAL VIEW POINTS

  • Stalin took land from farmers and gave government complete control

  • Leon Trotsky was one of the main opposers of Stalin. He was a founder and first leader of the red army, and politician. Trotskies marxist theories opposed that of Stallins. 
  • Stalinism is also commonly used in a critical manner to refer to Stalin's style of governance with associations.
  • Stalinist policies in the Soviet Union included: rapid industrialization,collectivization of agriculture, the theory centralized state, and subordination of interests of foreign communist parties.

  • In 1955 Austria re-gained sovereignty and became an independent neutral nation

  • In some cases hes responsible for 20 million deaths during hid rule
