Jamaica

Location
Near the Carribean sea and on the Carribean Plate.

Major Physical Features
Beautiful beaches and huge mountains plains and rivers.Mountain Ranges can reach about 7,402 ft at their highest.most of the rivers starting the mountains and creates a lot of damage in more rainy seasons.

Major Human Features
50% of people in Jamaica live in the Urbans. 90% of the the people are African American.

Human/Environment Interaction

The average rainfall is about 30 inches on the coast to about 200 inches in the mountains. Which means all the rivers from the mountains often flood, this has caused people that live near these rivers to begin building their houses out of mud, bricks, and stone.

Region of the world
Jamaica is placed as a Tropical Region.

Language.
Jamaicans speak many languages such as English, Arawak, Jamaican Crede, and Jamaican Slang.

Government
There is 21 members in the senate. 60 members in the house of reps. There is two main political parties. The country is divided into 14 different parishes.

Economics
Jamaica has natural resources,primarily,bauxite and an ideal conducive for agriculture and also tourism. The country faces some serious problems but has the potential for growth and modernization.

Education.
Primary school is from age 6-12. Their grading system is higher than ours.

Family.
You are fortunate to be born in Jamaica. The parents there are very stern but loving. Everyone that is an adult in the family raises you. On holidays the whole family comes over.

Religion.
Freedom of worship is guaranteed by Jamaicas constitution. More than 60% of the Jamaican religion is Christian.

Technology.
The island was one of the first in the American hemisphere to gain electricity.

Current International Issue.
heavy rates of deforestation; coastal waters are being polluted by industrial waste, sewage, and oil spills; damage to coral reefs; air pollution in Kingston from vehicle emissions
