TYPES OF EROSION

SPLASH

  • Splash erosion is the first stage of the erosion process. It occurs when rain drops hit bare soil.the explosive impact breaks up soil aggregates so that individual soil partials are 'splashed' onto the soil surface.

SHEET

  • Description: sheet erosion removes the surface material more or less evenly from an extensive area as contrasted with erosion along well defined drainage lines that produces or enlarges gullies or ravines.

RILL

  • Definition: rill erosion is the removal of soil by running water with formation of shallow channels that can be smoothed out completely by tillage.

GULLY

  • Definition: gully erosion is erosion that occurs when runoff water accumulates and rapidly flows in narrow channels during or immediately after Hevesy rains or melting snow, removing soil to a considerable depth.

EROSION

  • Definition: erosion is the process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents
