PRESENTATION OUTLINE
What is air pollution?
the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment: air pollution.
(Definition from the dictionary app)
How much trash does America generate?
A LOT! America throws away 12.96 trillion pounds of waste including Co2 (3.3 trillion), and food (28 billion). Think about how much builds up in 50 years.
How much pollution is in the ocean?
288 million metric tons were made in 2010 and 4.8-12.7 million metric tons ended up in the ocean.
Is there something we can do?
Yes. We can do a lot of things. The main thing we can do is what's called the 3 R's.
The first R is to reduce.
Do you leave the sink on while brushing your teeth? Perfect example to reduce. Reducing limits waste by a lot. Water just running goes to the sewer which is also waste. Turning off lights is another example that you can save energy because using coal to make electricity puts CO2 in the air. Turning it off reduces it an helps a little bit at a time.
The second R is to reuse.
To reuse something is just what it sounds like. If you have an empty bottle for instants you could use it for other things like a water bottle, storage for rice, and anything that you can think of. Another perfect example is toothbrushes. After yours is outdated, use it for cleaning purposes like scrubbing toilets or floors.
The third one is a little tricky. It is called to recycle. To recycle something is to almost reuse it but it is completely different. I have a ruler made out of recycled oil. There are verrrryyyy comfortable jackets made from recycled cans. Recycling keeps about an 1/8 of all trash out of land fields a year.
