WHEN AND WHERE DID HE LIVE

  • He was born in 3 BCE
  • He died in 33 AD
  • He lived in Nazareth, Galilee

WHAT WAS THE GEOGRAPHY LIKE

  • Rocky
  • Mountainous
  • Desert
  • Hot dry summers
  • Wet/rainy winters with occasional snow

DAILY LIFE

  • Traditional Jewish customs we very important- worshiping, temples, sabbath
  • Mostly small one floor homes with one to two rooms
  • Center of the town was the market place
  • Most people worked as day laborers- builders, shepherds or carpenters
  • They made pilgrimages to the temple

AVERAGE DIET

  • Wheat and barley
  • Grains, olives, lentils
  • Basic fruits- figs, dates, grapes
  • Fruit and vegetables were dried in order to reserve them
  • Food was prepared very simply

SOCIAL CLASSES

  • 2 main classes- poor and the lower class
  • There was a very small middle class
  • The poor were mainly laborers
  • The wealthy were authority and leaders

RELIGION

  • Mainly Jewish
  • Religion was a very important part of their daily life
  • The temple was the center of their daily life
  • Participated in sacrifices and feasts
  • Respected the sabbath- no manual labor on Sundays
