Throughout history, technology and scientific discoveries have continuously played an intricate role in our society.

Scientific advancements/breakthroughs have helped our country through various wars, such as World War 2

Many of these advancements and changes helped lead the world into a new era of battle

FIGHTER PLANES & AIRCRAFT

  • WW2 planes made out of aluminum
  • These planes also comtiamed piston engines and had a sleek design
  • Each plane created was used to perfom a specific task

Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress (1941)

  • Heavy bombers, contained four engines, and high-speed fighters
  • they were known for their daylight bombing raids over Europe

CONSOLIDATED B-24 LIBERATOR

  • the most extensively built US Aircraft
  • contained a new wing design optimized for low drag and high lift
  • delivered large bombs over long distances and served in all theaters of combat

TUSKEGEE AIRMEN

  • While there was a growing number of planes being created,
  • The World War era was the initiation for these famous fighter pilots
  • These airmen were the first African American aviators to fight for the US armed forces
  • the black pilots were forced to train at a base located in Tuskegee, Alabama

TUSKEGEE AIRMEN CONT...

  • Highly respected for their advanced/sophisticated style of aircraft combat
  • On March 24, 1944, a group of Tuskegee Airmen shot down three German jets
  • THE 332ND FIGHTER GROUP (THE RED TAILS)
  • C. Alfred "Chief" Anderson was one of the most famous pilots of his time

TANKS AND VEHICLES

  • Tanks used in WW2 escalated firepower and provided mobility for the soldiers
  • TIGER 1 & 2 were German tanks which played a critical role for war
  • Both these tanks contained heavy armor and a powerful gun
  • These powerful tanks even destroyed over 100 German tanks, after D-Day
