SEA PERILS AND DEFEAT
- Book 12, pages 209-225
- Fletcher
In this book, Odysseus starts on the island of Kirke, where she warns him of the dangers he will face, like the seirenes, skylla and kharybdis, and of Helios' cattle. His crew eats the cattle and Zeus smites them.
At this point in the Odyssey Odysseus seams like he has much more drive to get home than he did at the beginning of the story he told the phaiakians, where as then he seemed more interested in exploring.
I think the fact that his crew completely disregarded his order while he was away is important, it brought the book back to book five, and the fact that Zeus hid him from Skylla was also important.
