COMPETITION

  • Lack of resources cause conflicts
  • Reduces population due to the competiotion
  • Two species cannot live in the same environment
  • Ex: two lions will fight for food

PREDATION

  • The predator hunts and kills the pray
  • Usually a carnivore or omnivore eats an herbivore
  • Herbivores eat plants
  • Ex: deer eats grass and lions eats deer

PARASITISM

  • Parasites do not try to kill the host
  • Ectoparasites are mosquitoes and lice
  • Endoparasites are worms
  • Ex: insect lays eggs on the host and become larva

MUTUALISM

  • Both species benefit from each other
  • This promotes co-evolution which can be good or bad
  • Ex: clownfish protects sea anenome and vise versa

COMMENSALISM

  • An organism benefits from another organism
  • The other organism is not affected
  • Ex: a bird living in a tree
