JOHN F. KENNEDY

  • Made the civil rights act of 1964
  • He supported crm even though he might not be reelected
  • The crm of 1964 discontinued discrimination by race, color, religion, and sex.
  • most of this happened in washington dc.
  • The civil right act was signed on july 2, 1964

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

  • One of the leaders for the civil rights movement
  • He want equality for all but, he was going to get it peacefully
  • One of his famous speeches "i have a dream" was on august 28, 1963
  • He also did many protests in Alabama and Georgia
  • Mlk's speech was delivered in washington dc

ROSA PARKS

  • Sat on a bus and got arrested for not giving up her seat to a white man
  • She was arrested on dec 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama
  • She riled up the african-american community
  • She stood for equality and no black person should give up their seat

Emmett till
He was a 14 year old boy who was beaten and killed before being thrown into a river for flirting with a white woman as a dare. This took place on August 28, 1955 in money, Mississippi. He raised awareness for how cruel people can be.

Ruby bridges
A black child who went to an all white school. Her first day was on nov 14, 1960 and it was at William Frantz elementary school in New Orleans, Louisiana. She broke the rules of segregation and opened new doors for everyone.

  • In little rock, arkansas At central high school
  • Along with ruby, they wanted integrated schools
