The effect of Diocletian expanding the army, drained the government funds because they all had to be paid. This led to the financial collapse of the empire.
The empire of Rome grew too massive for the government to efficiently maintain. With too much land to rule, they were stretched too thin.
Lots of land for farming was lost in the invasions from nomadic tribes. Without people eating, people are dying and starving people is a huge reason the empire fell.
