MESOPOTAMIA GEOGRAPHY

  • Mesopotamia is a Greek word meaning 'between the rivers'. The rivers are the Tigris and Euphrates which flow through modern Iraq. The Euphrates also flows through much of Syria. Mesopotamia is made up of different regions, each with its own geography.

TIGRIS AND EUPHRATES RIVERS

  • Tigris Euphrates river system, Tigris Euphrates river system Encyclopedia Britannica,great river system of Southwest Asia, comprising the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which have their sources within 50 miles of each other in eastern Turkey and travel southeast through northern Syria and Iraq to the head of the Persian Gulf. The lower portion of the region that they define, known as Mesopotamia was one of the cradles of civilization.

THE FERTILE CRESCENT

  • The Fertile Crescent is the region in the Middle East which curves, like a quarter-moon shape, from the Persian Gulf, through modern-day southern Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and northern Egypt.

EARLY VALLEY DWELLERS

  • Ancestral Pueblo people, sometimes called Anasazi, who were builders of the ancient cliff dwellings found in the canyons and on the mesas of the U.S. Southwest, principally on the tributaries of the Rio Grande and the Colorado River in New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado.

TAMING THE RIVER'S

  • The River Tame is the main river of the West Midlands of England, and the most important tributary of the River Trent.The Tame is about 95 km from the source at Oldbury to its confluence with the Trent near Alrewas,but the main river length of the entire catchment,the Tame and its main tributaries, is about 285 km.

WHO WAS SARGO

  • Sargon of Akkad also known as Sargon the Great, Shar-Gani-Sharri, and Sarru-Kan, meaning "True King" or "Legitimate King"reigned in Mesopotamia from 2334 to 2279 BCE. He is equally famous today as the father of the great poet-priestess

HAMMURABI AND HIS CODE

  • One of the earliest and most complete ancient legal codes was proclaimed by the Babylonian king Hammurabi, who reigned from 1792 to 1750 B.C. Hammurabi expanded the city-state of Babylon along the Euphrates River to unite all of southern Mesopotamia. His code, a collection of 282 laws and standards, stipulated rules for commercial interactions and set fines and punishments to meet the requirements of justice.

NEBUCHADENZZAR

  • Nebuchadnezzar was a Chaldean king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, who reigned c. 605 BC – 562 BC. Both the construction of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the destruction of Jerusalem's temple are ascribed to him. Wikipedia
