NOAH

HIS FAITHFUL JOURNEY UPON AN ARK

FROM THE BEGINNING

  • Noah was the grandson of Methuselah and the son of Lamech
  • Noah lived for 950 years and had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth
  • He Noah was a “just man and perfect in his generation,” and “walked with God”
  • The people of the earth during Noah's time were wicked and corrupt
  • God opted to sweep the earth of it's population

GOD'S RELATIONSHIP WITH NOAH

  • Noah was a righteous man that did everything God asked of him
  • The people of Noah's time became corrupt and sinful
  • Due to the behavior of the people, God decided to bring upon a flood
  • This flood would kill all of mankind except for Noah and his descendants
  • God would lead Noah to safety

CHOOSING NOAH

  • God singled out Noah from all of his people and chose him for an important task
  • He told Noah about his plan to kill all the people of his land with a universal flood
  • God promised Noah that he would protect him and his family
  • God would protect Noah if he followed his instructions
  • God had faith in Noah, for he new he was a man who always believed in God

CONSTRUCTING THE ARK

  • To escape the flood, God instructed Noah to build an ark
  • God gave specific directions on how to construct the ark
  • It had to be very large, made out of cypress/gopher wood with a door on the side
  • It had to be sealed with tar to keep out the water, with a window below the roof
  • The dimensions of the ark were 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high

Noah's Ark had three tiers

NOAH'S FAMILY AND ANIMALS

  • God allowed Noah to take his family with him on the arc to escape the flood
  • There were 8 people on the ark that were safe from the flood
  • These 8 people included Noah, his wife, their 3 sons, and the wives of sons
  • God also instructed Noah to bring two of every kind of animal on the ark
  • Along with his family and the animals, Noah brought food for survival

DURING THE FLOOD

  • The flood lasted for nearly 40 days and 40 nights
  • This universal flood killed everyone outside of the arc
  • Noah, his family, and the animals stayed on the ark for the entire flood
  • Due to Noah believing, and listening to God, he was saved
  • God kept his promise with Noah

THE DOVE

  • Noah released a dove from his ark at the end of the flood
  • He did this to see if the water had dried up and to see if it was safe
  • The first time, the dove came back to him with nothing
  • A week later it came back with an olive leaf, showing the water had dried up
  • This dove is symbolic to the story of Noah and essentially led him off the ark

THE RAINBOW

  • The rainbow is the sign of the covenant between God and Noah
  • God sent the rainbow to show he would never send a universal flood again
  • It is a promise from God to Noah and his descendants
  • People will now live on the Earth again
  • God is now satisfied

GOD'S COVENANT WITH NOAH

  • God makes a binding promise with Noah that he never breaks
  • Although Noah did sin through drunkenness and nakedness, God forgives him
  • God forgives Noah because of their covenant and his strong belief and love
  • Noah sinning, shows us that even righteous men to commit sins
  • Overall, Noah was a very strong figure and in the Old Testament
