PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MECHANICAL ENGINEER

  • Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies the principles of engineering, physics, and materials science for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Mechanical engineers generally work in professional office setting. They may occasionally visit worksite where a problem needs their personal attention.

"JOB DESCRIPTION"

  • Mechanical engineers provide efficient solutions to the development of processes and products, ranging from small component designs to extremely large plant, machinery or vehicles. They can work on all stages of a product, from research and development to design and manufacture, through to installation and final commissioning.
  • They are responsible for analysis and design of commercial, industrial, governmental, and institutional projects.

"EDUCATION AND TRAINING"

  • Prospective mechanical engineering technicians usually take courses in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and mechanical design in a program leading to an associate's degree. ABET accredits programs that include at least college algebra, trigonometry, and basic science courses.
  • Time to complete education It takes at least 4 years of undergraduate education to become an entry-level mechanical engineer. A master's degree in mechanical engineering will take an extra 2 to 4 years. A Ph.D. may take another 4 to 7 years to complete.

"OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADVANCEMENT"

  • Graduate education is essential for engineering faculty positions in higher education, as well as for some research and development programs. Many experienced mechanical engineers earn graduate degrees in engineering or business administration to learn new technology and broaden their education and enhance their project management skills. Many become administrators or managers after obtaining a graduate degree from lows payment of $52,000.00 to a higher to $121,530.00 Per year.

"SALARY AND BENEFITS"

  • mechanical engineers averaged $40.17 per hour or $9,768 per month as $83,550 per year
  • lowest-paid 10 percent earned less than 24.68 per hour or $5,923 per month as $51,340 per year,
  • best-paid 10 percent made more than $57.67 per hour or $13,840 per month as $119,950 per year.
  • To receive these salaries, these professionals need a minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, which typically includes courses in physical and life science, math and engineering. Internships or co-ops expose students to practical experience in industry. Master’s degrees are needed for those wanting managerial posts in the field.
