SOME DETAILS

  • Union army attempted to siege the town but failed twice
  • The Union army ended up blockading the town for 40 days
  • The confederates surrendered due to lack of supplies
  • This was the "turning point" of the war

  • This Union victory split the confederacy in half.
  • 77,000 Union troop, 4,835 died
  • 33,000 Confederates, 3,202 died the rest surrendered
