Nicaragua is located between Honduras and Costa Rica. It is south of the United States.

The president of Nicaragua is Daniel Ortega.

Nicaragua is a republic.

Nicaragua is involved in many international organizations including the UN, WHO, BCIE, and many others.

In 1978 there was a short civil war and in 1979, Marxist Sandinista guerrillas came into power. With US support, the Sandinista guerillas lost power in 1990. However, the current president is a former Sandinista.

The official language of Nicaragua is Spanish.

Miskito and Mestizo of the Caribbean are also spoken in Nicaragua.

Miskito is only spoken in northeastern Nicaragua and eastern Honduras.

Gallo Pinto is a dish composed of red beans, rice, onion, and sweet pepper that is eaten regularly in Nicaragua.

This dress is called a trencilla costume and is used to dance to any type of marimba music. It originated from some indigenous traditional dress.

Concepción Volcano is 1,610 meters high and located in Moyogalpa, Nicaragua.

Quizalá Beach is in Managua.

Fiestas Patronales are very common. Every city has its own "patron saint" and they have festivals in their honor that last several days.

The motmot is the national bird of Nicaragua and can be found all over the country.
