GOOD USES OF THIS ELEMENT

  • Used in matches
  • Black gunpowder
  • And explosives

Common isotopes
Their are 25 common isotopes. Other than 35S, the radioactive isotopes of sulfur are all comparatively short-lived. 35S is formed from cosmic ray spallation of 40Ar in the atmosphere. It has a half-life of 87 days. The next longest-lived radioisotope is sulfur-38, with a half-life of 170 minutes. The shortest-lived is 49S, with a half-life shorter than 200 nanoseconds.

5 OTHER FACTS

  • It is found primarily in volcanic or sedimentary deposits and meteoroids
  • It combines with almost all the other elements
  • It is a poor conductor of electricity
  • It is insoluble in water
  • It is a non-metal

2 MORE FACTS

  • When sulfur burns it produces a gas, a poisonous gas
  • Makes up almost 3% of earths mass
