HOW IT GOT STARTED
- The Harlem Renaissance was the name for a cultural and artistic explosion
- Most people where migrating from the south so they could express their talents freely
- At the time of the renaissance it was called the New Negro Movement
WHATS GOING ON?
- A famous magazine called the Crisis published poems, stories, and visual works by artists of that period
- A number if factors contributed to the decline of the Harlem Renaissance like the Great Depression

- Black History month was first celebrated in 1928
- Many people considered Harlem as the Mecca for African Americans

- The word Renaissance means rebirth so the Harlem Renaissance was a rebirth for African Americans.
