PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Greek Mythology

Myth:

A story believed by a particular group of people to explain the unexplainable

Oracle:

A BEING WHO TOLD THE FUTURE. IF THE ORACLE SAID IT, IT CAME TRUE.

In the beginning...

...there was chaos.

Sound familiar? Big Bang?

OUT OF CHAOS CAME URANUS AND GAIA

Uranus

FATHER SKY

Gaia

Mother Earth

From them came the Titans.

One very important Titan, Cronus, became the father of the gods and goddesses.

The Oracle at Delphi told Cronus

that one of his children would take over and rule over him.

Because Cronus didn't want this to happen,

EVERY TIME RHEA HAD A BABY, HE WOULD EAT IT.

FINALLY RHEA GOT WISE AND WRAPPED UP A ROCK LIKE A BABY

AND GAVE IT TO CRONUS. HE SWALLOWED IT THINKING IT WAS A BABY.

Rhea sent the baby to Crete to be raised

BY HUMANS. THAT BABY WAS ZEUS.

When Zeus was fully grown, he returned

TO CHALLENGE HIS FATHER, AND FREE HIS SIBLINGS.

Zeus cut open Cronus' stomach and

FREED HIS FIVE SIBLINGS FROM CAPTIVITY.

He then cut off Cronus' man parts and

THREW THEM INTO THE OCEAN. THE OCEAN BUBBLED AND...

...from the bubbly ocean, Aphrodite

WAS BORN.

Zeus chopped up Cronus and imprisoned

HIM IN THE UNDERWORLD. HE CHAINED UP HIS BODY PARTS.

Because Zeus, the youngest of the six,

FREED HIS SIBLINGS, HE BECAME THE GOD OF ALL.
