Interview Findings

Laura Guzman

Accountant
When asked about the challenges of being an accountant, Laura immediately began listing the difficulties. Her biggest challenge is getting her clients to submit their tax documents to her on time. She said it makes it impossible to complete tax returns which lengthens the process. This happens every deadline so about four times a year. When asked if she has ever tried to solve this problem she said that she has tried countless times. A big thing to her is communicating with her clients to esure they know the filling date and can get their ducuments in.

Greg Villard

CPA
Greg Villard works as a CPA in La Mesa, Ca. He says one of his biggest struggles is finding the time to complete all of his clients tax returns. He stated that its difficult to even find time to eat during "tax season" because he is so busy with paperwork, meeting with clients, and running the business. He said when he gets so busy the quality of his work goes down. This happens every tax season. To attempt to fix this problem he says that whenever he does have down time he rests, and he tries to evenly spread out his days to make them less hectic.

Findings

I found in these interviews that although they have similar tasks, their problems were different. Laura struggled with getting her clients to submit their paperwork. Whereas Greg struggled with finding enough hours in the day to accomplish his tasks. Another thing I found interesting was that both of them despite the challenges seem to enjoy what they do for a living.

Ideas

An idea that would help Laura obtain the documents faster could be to set up an auto email to email them every few days as a reminder. She could also find a way to find an incentive to turn them in. An idea I would share with Greg would be to limit the amount of time spent with clients. For example limiting meetings to 30 minutes max so that he can focus more on actually completing and filing the taxes.
