EARLY PEOPLE IN ECUADOR

The first civilians in Ecuador approximately settled
In Ecuador in 10,000 BC
The first people were probably hunter gatherers

ECUADOR HISTORY

In 4600 ad Incan ruler Tupac-yupanqui invaded south Ecuador and
3 major tribes ( the canari, Quitu, and caras) fought him
They held him back, but had problems with his son huayna capac
Huayna capac conquered Ecuador

HISTORY CONTINUED

In 1532, Francisco Pizarro landed in Ecuador
He was accompanied by 180 armed men
He then ambushed and executed the Incan ruler
In 1822, Simon bolivar defeated a Spanish army
Independence was finally won

THE SPANISH IN ECUADOR

The Spanish ruled Ecuador for nearly 300 years
They introduced Roman Catholicism,
colonial architecture, and the Spanish language
