THE HOLOCAUST

WHAT WAS IT?

  • The Holocaust was the mass murder and execution of Jews by Nazi Germany.
  • Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, the disabled and homosexuals were also targeted.

CONFLICT

  • Nazi Germany fought because they thought they were superior.
  • They also blamed the Jews for the loss in WWI. So, Jews were considered inferior.
  • Nazi Germany used anti-Jewish policies and many different types of killing operations.
  • Six million Jews were killed during the Holocaust.

TIMELINE OF THE HOLOCAUST

  • February 28, 1933- Adolf Hitler comes to power due to the Reichstag Fire.
  • March 22, 1933- First concentration camps are set up.
  • July 14, 1933- Nazi Party is declared the only legal party in Germany.
  • August 4, 1934- Germanys president, von Hindenberg dies. Hitler becomes president.
  • January, 1937- Jews are banned from many professional occupations.

TIMELINE OF THE HOLOCAUST

  • May, 1939- A ship called the St. Louis, that housed Jewish refugees, is turned down by many countries.
  • December 11, 1941- The United States declare war because of Pearl Harbor.
  • January, 1942- Mass killings of Jews using Zyklon-B began at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
  • March 11, 1946- Auschwitz Kommandant Höss is arrsted and later hung.
  • October 16, 1946- Göring commits suicide.

PROPAGANDA

  • This song is a form of name calling and testimonial propaganda.
  • This was used to tell people about the holocaust and how bad it was.

PROPAGANDA

  • This poster is of Anne Frank. She was in the Holocaust.
  • This is a form of glittering generalities and plain folk propaganda.
  • This was used to tell how bad Jews were treated and how scared they were.

LEADERSHIP

  • Some leaders of this movement were Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, and Hermann Goering.
  • They had assertive egos, sneaky plans, and deception.
  • The Allied Powers and the Jews stood against them. Some leaders were Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
  • They had courage, the feeling of revenge, and retaliation.

ECONOMY

  • The economy affected the movement because Germany was in very deep debt.
  • Because of this, Germany blamed the Jews, leading to the Holocaust which made it worse.

HUMAN RIGHTS

  • The right to life, safety, and religion were violated.
  • No it is not still continuing.
  • It was resolved by Hitler commiting suicide and the Allied Forces winning.
