Origins:
The Cold War got it's name because it was not a direct battle or war between Russia and the U.S. The war had it's origins after World War II when the Russian army occupied much of E Europe. The weakness of W Europe encouraged the spread of communism as well. The U.S. Was against this communism and their Marshall Plan helped restore W Europe, but other events kept tensions high. Finally, the establishment of the Western Alliance, NATO and the Warsaw Pact solidified the two opposing parties that shaped the Cold War.
