Italian Manners

Italians like to be introduced by a third party. It is proper to be introduced to women and older people first when meeting new people. It is also common to greet people with a firm hand shake, direct eye contact and a hug.

They often use hand gestures when speaking to emphasize whatever they are talking about.

They consider pointing fingers at someone as being rude.

Republican Democracy
Italy is a republican democracy.
Italy has a different structure of government from the United States. The biggest difference is in the role of the President. The Judicial power is held by the judges, who's only duty is to apply the laws.
