What is it?
A catalytic converter is a vehicle emissions control device that converts toxic pollutants in exhaust gas to less toxic pollutants by using oxidation or reduction reactions.

Where Can You Find Them?
Catalytic converters can be found in the exhaust system of all cars that were produced after 1975.

Countries such as the, United States. and Canada, perform checks on certain vehicles to test their emissions standards. This is basically testing the state of their catalytic converter.

What do catalytic converters do to emissions?
Catalytic converters change harmful emissions such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides to less harmful ones such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrogen gas.

What are they made of?
Catalytic converters are typically composed of precious metals such as platinum and palladium that speed up the reaction process.
