THE EARLY MONEY GAIN

• He became rich from a grain and meat partnership
• He saw the oil industry as a way to make even more money
• He bought his first refinery in 1863 in Cleveland, Ohio
• He thought drilling for oil was riskier than refining it.

MONOPOLY

• Rockefeller bought all refineries
• Or asked them to join his group
• He owned 98% of the refineries
• He bullied the refineries he couldnt buy
• To join him or be run out of buisness

STRIKES WITH OIL

• John Rockefeller was blamed for the ludlow massacre
• His workers had revolted against their bosses
• because they used guns, the state militia came and killed them

• Stoped when Rockefeller tried to make things better
