HARRIET TUBMAN
Harriet was born in 1820 in Maryland
She is well known for the Underground Railroad
Her birth name was Arminta Ross
She lived in a one room cabin with her family that included 11 children

When she was 13 she was hit in the head with an iron wieght
It almost killed her and caused her to be dizzy and have blackouts
In 1849 she decided to escape and went to Pennsylvania
She wanted to help others so she became a conductor in the Underground Railroad

She led 19 different escapes and helped about 300 slaves escape
Harriet became known as Moses because she led people to freedom
She also helped in the Civil War
She nursed injured soldiers, was a spy for the north and helped on a campaign that resuced over 750 slaves

As she got older the head injury she recieved when she was younger got worse
She had brain surgery at a Boston hospital to lessen the pain
Eventually she was put in a rest home named in honor of her
In 1913 Harriet died of pneumonia
