Origin

Glass originated in way back in Mesopotamia, Syria and Ancient Egypt. Glassmaking began in 3500. It is traced back to Mesopotamian craftsman.

What Is Glass

Glass is the most commonly known transparent material known. It is formed when sand is reaches 3,200 degrees Fahrenheit.

TYPES OF GLASS

  • Clear Glass
  • Tempered Glass
  • Stained Glass
  • Tinted Glass
  • Mirrors

Clear Glass

Clear glass is nearly colorless due to the blue-green edges. Clear glass allows 90% of visible light to pass through and reflects 8%.

Tempered Glass

Tempered glass is glass that is strengthened through a heating process. This locks the surface on the glass with compression. Once tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled. Tempered glass is commonly used for buildings

Stained Glass

Stained glass is glass with patterns embedded on the surface. It generally has small multicolored patches of glass. Once stained the glass is fragile and cannot be tempered.

Tinted Glass

Tinted glass is created when color pigments are add to it during making process. The color density of the glass is basically the thickness, the thicker, the less amount of light than come through. Standard colors are usually black and blue. This glass also collects solar energy

Mirrors

Mirrors are grey glass with a reflective glass coating on 1/4 of it. Mirrors allow vision towards one direction. The reflective coating causes mirrors to reflect light direct to it.
