Rome's location had many positives

Mild Climate

Not too hot, or cold...just right

The plains of Italy were well suited to farming, unlike Greece

Defensible

The city was built on seven defensible hills

Romans farmed on the plains and lived in the Hills

Rome was near the Mediterranean, a key trade route

Right next to the Tiber River

Which gave protection and easier trade

The Italian Peninsula

Roman ships could sail to colonise and conquer
