CREATION OF A NATIONAL JUDICIARY

  • During the years the articles of confederation were in force 1781-1789
  • There are two separate court systems, a dual court system
  • There are two kinds of federal courts

FEDERAL COURT JURISDICTION

  • The constitution courts hear most of the cases tried in the federal courts.
  • The constitution gives the federal courts jurisdiction over certain cases.
  • The federal courts have several different types of jurisdiction.

APPOINTMENT OF JUDGES

  • The manner in which federal judges are chosen
  • The terms and pay of judges
  • Today federal judges have little involvement in administrative operations.

THE DISTRICTS COURTS

  • The fifty states district courts are the federal trial courts
  • The district courts have original jurisdiction over most cases
