Summary: John is a very high ranking farmer in Salem. John is very straight forward. In the book it says "a fool felt is foolishness instantly..." This shows he does not care. He is a protagonist in the story

Loyalty
Proctor is a very loyal man, especially to his friends and family. His one mistake was adultery. He never lied about it though and confessed it. In the book it says "They think to go like saints. I like not to spoil their names" this shows he's willing to stand up for his friends

Tough
John is a very strong man. He will do what ever it takes to save his wife and friends. "I will fall like an ocean on that court" this shows how he will do whatever it takes to save Elizabeth

Guilt
John has a lot of guilt built up. Ever since he cheated on Elizabeth he never stopped trying to make it up to his wife. "My wife will never die for me! I will bring your guts into your mouth but that goodness will not die for me!" He feels bad
