Indirect statement

  • Reports something from someone's perspective
  • Uses words such as thinks, hopes, knows, ect.
  • Direct Statement = "There is a hill in the distance."
  • Indirect Statement = "I see a hill in the distance."

Head Verbs

  • verbs that are related to the head
  • ex) speaking, thinking, seeing
  • verbs that are connected to a part of the head
  • ex) thinking = brain, seeing = eyes
  • Latin ex) video = I see, audio = I hear

Sentences

  • subject introduced by head verb must be accusitive
  • verb introduced by head verb must be infinative
  • Ex) Video viros necare Caesarum
  • "I see the men are killing Caesar"

Explanation

  • Video viros necare Caesarum
  • Video = head verb
  • viros = accusitive
  • necare = infinative
  • Caesarum = subject
