BAHÁ'Í FAITH

BELIEF IN GOD

  • Believe in one God.
  • Believe God is incomprehensible and the only thing we will know about him is that he exists.
  • The way to get an idea of God is by looking at teachings of his prophets/messengers.

HISTORY

  • The Bahá'í Faith was founded in the 19th century in Iran.
  • The founder was Mirza Hoseyn 'Ali Nuri.
  • The Bahá'í Faith is rooted out of the Shi'ite branch of the Muslim faith.

HOLY TEXTS

  • Bahá'u'lláh, Abdu'l-Bahá, and the Báb's writings
  • The Scriptures of other prophets from other religions are regarded as Divine Revelations.
  • The Qur'an is recognised as fully authoritative and the Judaeo-Christian Bible as substantially authentic.

Main Purpose of the Bahá'í Faith

  • The main purpose of life in the Bahá'í Faith is to love and know God. They see their mission as to bring harmony and unity to the world. This is reflected in their spiritual practice.
  • Prayer, Meditation, and fasting are the main ways to achieve this.

SACRED PLACES

  • The Shrine of the Báb in Hairfa
  • The Shrine of Bahá'u'lláh in Acre

RITUALS

  • The Bahá'í Faith have no rituals, clergy, or sacraments.
  • The only three rituals are: daily prayer, reciting the prayer for the dead at a funeral, and the simple marriage rite.
  • The reason behind Bahá'í religion not having rituals is because they can lose their meaning and you carry them for no reason.

FASTING

  • In the Bahá'í Faith fasting is done so you can concentrate on oneself as a spiritual being and get closer to God.
  • The Nineteen Day Fast was designated by Bahá'u'lláh. It was a 19 day fasting period right before the New Year. It is done as preparation for the New Year.
  • The sick, elderly, and the very young are excempt from fasting.
