PRESENTATION OUTLINE

GROSSE POINTE SOUTH VARSITY CHEER

THE TEAM

  • The team has quadrupled in 4 years
  • They practice jumps,tumbling,stunting and cheering
  • Many of the girls went to Brownell
  • They cheer at games,competitions, and a pep assembly

COMPETION

  • They have an upcoming competition
  • They have won 1st in every MAC compition
  • They have moved up in their division
  • They need lots of skills for their compition

TUMBLING

  • This picture is of South cheerleader,Alexandria Cullen
  • Her highest tumbling skill is front walkover, round off, 4 springs and a tuck
  • For competition they need handsprings and tucks
  • There is a lot of physical requirement to perform these skills

STUNTING

  • Stunting requires strength, flexibility, and balance
  • Stunting is a huge part of competition
  • Some popular stunts are extensions,one mans, and basket tosses
  • The flyer, who goes up, usually pulls a skill in a stunt
  • The flyer in this picture is pulling a heel stretch

JUMPS

  • High and tight jumps are a must for competition
  • Toe touches, pikes and herkys are popular jumps
  • This is a picture of a toe touch
  • Jumps need to be clean and on count for competition
  • Jumps require core and leg strength

CHEER

  • Alexandria Cullen stated,
  • "Cheerleading is criticized for the assumption it doesn't take physical requirement."
  • Telegraph.co.uk states that cheer is one of the most dangerous sports
  • According to varsity.com women couldn't cheer, until 1923
  • All Star cheer started in the late 1980's
