a young man named Tamarereti lived at that time.

His family were very hungry, so he went fishing.

Soon after he left the beach he had caught three huge fish. Then he noticed

that the wind had died down, and he couldn't get back to shore.

He was tired and knew there was alot

of time until darkness, so he went to sleep.

while he was asleep the wind had picked up

and had pushed him to the other side of the lake.

When he woke up he noticed it was turning dark. He knew he was

in trouble, but he knew the best thing to do was to have some food.

While he was eating his food he noticed something out of the

corner of his eye, they were pebbles, shining from the light of the fire.

this gave him a brilliant idea so he went down to the beach.

Then he put as many pebbles into the waka as he could.

then he jumped in the waka and set off.

On his way, he threw the pebbles one by one into the sky.

the pebbles made the shining stars.

His idea had worked, and he had scared the tanawha away.

He scared the tanawha off by the lightness

of the stars.

when he got home he went

straight to sleep he was very tired.

When he woke up early in the morning

he had a visitor, it was Ranginui the sky father.

He thought he was in trouble because,

he had taken Ranginuis sky and had turned it light.

But instead Ranginui thanked him for

saving everyone in the tribe.

Then he cast Tamariritis waka into

the sky, to remember what he had done.
