PHILLIP II FACTS
Phillip was born in the city of Valladolid on May 21, 1527.
In 1543, Phillip began governing the Spanish Empire at the age of 16
Philip's father arranged his marriage to 37-year old Queen Mary I of England
Prevented Protestantism from spreading into Spain and Portugal
Rose to become a very powerful English Monarch in the era of war and religious conflict

Was a Russian czar in the 17th century
He created a strong navy and reorganized his army according to Western standards
He administered greater control over the reactionary Orthodox Church and introduced new administrative and territorial divisions of the country
