PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE SUN

ALYSSA FROST AND MACKENZIE LADUSAU

FEATURES

  • The surface of the sun is the photosphere
  • Photosphere is about 5,500 degrees Celsius
  • The core can reach 15 million degrees Celcius
  • In the atmosphere you can find solar flares
  • There is not tectonic activity

SIZE

  • The sun is 100 times the size of Earth
  • Earths density is 5.515g/cm^3 and the suns density is 1.408 g/cm^3
  • The sun contains 99.8% of all mass in the solar system
  • The volume of the sun is 1,299,400 times bigger than earth's

ORBIT

  • The sun is not a solid, different parts rotate at different times
  • At the equator it spins around once every 25 days
  • At the poles it takes 36 days

EXPLORATION

  • Spacecrafts are constantly expanding our knowledge of the sun
  • SOHO, STEREO,THEMIS
  • Through this we know that the sun could never support life
  • We also know that without it there would be no life on Earth.

FORMATION AND DEATH

  • Gravity drew gas (hydrogen and helium) and dust together to form
  • Material collapses in our itself and causes it to spin.
  • Forms our protostar, over time goes through fusion and grows
  • Swell up into a red giant, and eventually become a white dwarf

WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE OF THE CORE?

  • 10 million c
  • 15 million c
  • 20 million
  • 25 million c

WHAT IS THE OUTERMOST LAYER OF THE SUN?

TRUE OR FALSE

  • Our sun will implode and eventually become a black hole.

WHAT COULD YOU FIND IN THE SOLAR ATMOSPHERE?

TRUE OR FALSE

  • The sun never experiences tectonic activity.
