Simile

  • A direct comparison between two unlike things using the words like or as
  • The boy was as fast as a cheetah.

Metaphor

  • A way of describing something by comparing it to something else without   
  • like or as
  • When the boy was track racing he was a turtle.  

Personification

  • To give human characteristics to something that is not human.
  • The tornado was throwing things away.

Alliteration

  • repetition of the first consonant sound at the beginning of the words
  • Sally sold sea shells by the sea shore.
