John Gorrie was born on October 3, 1803. Some people say that he was born in Charleston, South Carolina, but others think he was born in Nevis.

John Gorrie died in 1855. There is a debate on whether he died on June 29, 1855 or on June 16, 1855. He died in Aplachicola, Florida.

John Gorrie made an ice machine. It led to the refrigerator and air conditioning. It was very useful. The ice machine was intentional, but the others were a happy side effect.

HE DID THIS BECAUSE HE WAS A DOCTOR. HE TOOK CARE OF MANY PEOPLE THAT HAD YELLOW FEVER. HE WANTED TO PUT A STOP TO IT.

John Gorrie made his ice machine in Aplachicola, Florida. John Gorrie and his mother moved to Florida because they liked the Florida weather. They first moved to Sneads, Florida. After his mother died two years later, he moved to Aplachicola.

  • He married Caroline Frances on May 18, 1838.
  • He was Scottish.
  • His dad was in the Spanish navy. They called him Captain Gorrie.
  • Nobody was sure of his mom's name.
  • His childhood life was in South Carolina.
  • He went to medical school in 1825 in New York.
