EXPRESSIVE, AND CREATIVE.

A POETRY COUPLET IS...

Two birds on a tree, Singing sweet and wonderfully.
* A poetry couplet is a unit of verse consisting of two lines that usually rhyme.


* A couple = 2 people, 2 things, 2 of everything.


* May be humorous or serious


* Can be song lyrics, jokes, Dr. Seuss books, etc.

FREE VERSE POETRY IS...

The wind is now a roaring, smashing monster of destruction.
* Written without rhyme, rhythm, or specific structure.

* Is very conversational-sounds like someone talking with you.

* Some do not use capitalization, punctuation, or other rules of grammar.

* Even though free, this kind of verse requires careful use of words and imagery in order to express ideas effectively.

A SIMILE IS...

Yellow butterflies flickered in the shade. Like flecks of sun.
* The comparison of two things using like or as.

* Usually comparing two unlike things.

A METAPHOR IS...

The wind was a torrent of darkness among gusty trees.
* A form of figurative language in witch things are compared by stating one thing is another.

* "Like" and "as" are not used.

PERSONIFICATION IS...

The brook sang merrily as it went on it's way.
* Personification is the giving of human qualities to an animal or inanimate object.

Rivers roar and rivers flow they have no stop it's always go. They're cool and wet and full of life, and sometimes look like holiday lights. They run high and low and freeze when there's snow. But that does not stop them from thinking Go.
