PRESENTATION OUTLINE
"Mixing Art and Politics"
The Edutopia Clip, "Cultivating Multiple Intelligences at the Key Learning Community
" (2012) shows us the importance of incorporating the arts into our traditional curriculum structures. It also shows us the importance of students being able to play a role in the decisions regarding types of art used to supplement instruction. Each student is different and will respond to different types of instruction.
By allowing the art students and the AP Gov. students to work together, they both most likely saw the curriculum material in a way they had not seen it before. It may have inspired a student who before may have had no interest in art or any interest in politics. It bridges the academic gap, making the information accessible to all students regardless if scholastic ability.
The Edutopia clip also makes note of multiple intelligence and the role they can play in student learning. Offering students the opportunity to learn curriculum in a medium they are more comfortable with, for example, art of sculpture, could make them more open to learning and make them more confident in their learning abilities.
Making Learning more fun!
This school takes art integration to the next level, incorporating art education into HALF of the school day. Students supplement their academic studies with their hobbies and talents, making going to school a fun and enjoyable experience.
Students look forward to going to school because they know if they are struggling with a math or English concept one hoiur, they can "prove" themselves by practicing and showing off their talents in the arts the next hour in dance, music, theater etc. class.
