  • No formal ordination

  • Receive education in Quran
  • Serve as apprentice to current mosque leader
  • Soon given larger responsibility in mosque and community
  • Mosque leaders decide whether candidate may be permanent Imam

  • Faces Mecca
  • Recites the prayers leads movements which everyone follows

  • Present at mosque for 5 daily prayers
  • Sermon, or khutba, is presented on Fridays
  • Leads taraweeh, or nightly prayers during Ramadan
  • Leads other special prayers, as for funerals

  • Counsels during situations
  • Leads marriage and visits the sick
  • Currently, advise youth against radicalism and violence

COMPARISON

  • The matter and form cannot be compared because there in no ordination
