- There were only 7-10,000 soldiers in Constantinople
- The Byzantines were majorly outnumbered
WHY THE OTTOMAN TURKS ATTACKED
THE *MONGOLS TOOK THE OTTAMANS LAND
LOST LAND TO THE MONGOLS
- The Ottomans needed more land for their people
- The Ottomans were driven out of their homeland in Asia
- Lots of citizens that needed homes/space
WANTED THE TRADE LOCATION
CONSTANOPLES TRADE LOCATION
- Constantinople was cery wealthy city because of thier location due to trade
- The Ottoman turks wanted this wealth from all the trade
THE BUBONIC PLAGUE
- Spread by Mongols (from conquering land)
- Killed approxamatley 1/3 of Europe
- Killed millions in Constantinople
- Rats continued the spread of the plague in Europe
- Weakened and killed many soldiers in Constantinople
NO ALLIES
- There was no one to help defend Constantinople
- Things were said but nothing happened
- Constantinople went to many places asking for help (Italy)
BEGINNING OF THE RENAISSANCE
- People of Constantinople took their cultural knowledge of Rome and Greece when they fled the city
- This cultural renewal was the dawn of a new age
- This cultural knowledge sparked an interest in the ancient culture
- Ancient Greece and Rome culture are infuencing most of Europe
THE MUSLIMS RULED THE BOSPHOROUS

- Also others reasons to make almost impossible for Europeans

- Christopher Columbus was one of many to look for new trade routes
- He specifically was looking for India for their spices
- He did not find india but did discover the new world (U.S.)
