Why do we worship?

What do we hope to gain from our religion?
Israel was interested in material benefits - not eternal benefits that come from worshiping God. Many find it easy & comfortable to keep the appearance of being committed without deep and sincere loyalty. Fan vs. Follower
If we profess loyalty to God, we need to back it up with our actions!

What are our religious rituals?

Attending church, Bible class, regular quiet time, celebrating Christian holidays, praying before meals or at bedtime.

Rituals can be abused:
-to earn God's faove
-to make up for bad behavior
-to substitute for personal
relationships
-to make 'thought' unnecessary
-to avoid the risks to doing something different
-to gain community approval
Religious rituals can help people understand GOD. It needs to be carried out with an attitude of love for and obedience to GOD.

What idols do we have?

Are our efforts in becoming more like GOD or do we spend our time to become more like someone else or something else?

The more God gives., the more we spend! The finest things the world offers line the pathway to destruction. (lottery)

Where is our $ going?

Is it being used for God's purposes, or on selfish things?
This is a difficult one for me and an area where I am working on.

How would you measure SUCCESS?

God's measure of success is different from ours. God calls us to faithfulness, not to affluence. Character is more important to him than our pocketbooks. Rich people/nations don't feel the need for God. These people/nation claim their material success is due to their own hard work, initiative, and intelligence.

When you succeed, who gets the credit?

11:3 Ungratefulness is a common human fault. When was the last time we thanked someone? parents, pastor, leaders, etc. Thank those who make the world better through their love. Remember, what we have is NOT a result of our own efforts, but it is yours because God has been gracious to you.

Two principles Hosea taught to live by.
